The 10-Series
The 10-Series
The Soma Series
Each session has goals relating to the overall function of the body. The work is systematically working through the entire structure, no stone left unturned. Every body has different needs and patterns, there are many ways to achieve the goals of each session. The series is a project, with a beginning, middle and end. It can be a container for releasing old patterns, and deepening the connection to your bodymind. The series was originally developed in the 60’s by Ida Rolf, she was influenced by hatha yoga, alexander technique and osteopathic medicine. Ida was a pioneer who insisted that working with fascia could elicit profound change in a person’s physical structure, emotional body, and one’s ability to move with strength as a result of ease.
The Sleeve Sessions:
(can be done individually, or as a mini series.)
• Session 1: We begin with connecting to breath. This first session focuses on opening the front line.
• Session 2: Work is focused on the feet and lower legs, relaxing the back line of the body, through the feet. We begin to build awareness of the core line of the body.
• Session 3: We will focus the work on the side lines of the body, working deeper with the psoas, and low back.
The Core Sessions:
• Session 4, 5 and 6: all have a unified goal of lengthening the core midline to create better balance and freedom of movement. Connecting with the deepest part of our core and connecting with internal stability.
• Session 7: Working with the upper core of the body, releasing fascia of the neck face and head. Goal to create more self-reliance and personal power. Helpful for headaches, TMJ disorder, neck tension. (*can be individual session )
The integration Sessions:
• Session 8, 9 and 10: we work with the entire body to create core/sleeve integration, alignment and efficiency.
• Session 11: The Soma Institute has added one session focusing on the arms and their connection through the shoulder and trunk. Goal is to increase movement and energy through the arms and down the back. Helpful for carpal tunnel, hand and arm tension (*optional and can be an individual session).
